Shopping is just as popular among the island’s guests as relaxing on the beach. Since the island is a duty free zone, local stores offer attractive prices on jewellery, luxury watches, and accessories.
In fact, the same is true for all the other things sold here, including designer clothes, beach products, furniture and household goods, fine cigars and wines.
There are about 200 shops on the island, with new outlets opening all the time, but St. Barts’ shopping hotspots, Gustavia and St. Jean, have stood the test of time. So, thankfully, you won’t have to travel a long way around the island to look for new shopping opportunities.
In the capital, all the splendour of shopping is concentrated on the seafront Quai de la République, deep in the harbour, and on the adjacent streets. Here, shoppers will find Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, Cartier, Chopard, Hermès, and other famous brands as well as most of the top jewellery boutiques. St. Jean, on the other hand, is the place to buy casual goods for everyday use. The town is not as busy as the capital and the prices are lower. Still, shopping here is magnificent. Five smaller shopping malls that will surprise and delight you with their great variety of products and brands are scattered along the road leading to Anse de Lorient.
Keen shoppers will, most likely, need more than one day to visit all the stores in St. Barts, especially since most of them close for lunch from 12 a.m. till 2 p.m. and shut at 7 p.m.
